Standard data frames, which have application data, network command data, which allow network layer for certain tasks like pairing or discovery, and vendor specific data, which transports vendor application data, form the network layer frame. Schematic view of the network layer of ZigBee RF4CE is shown below:
- Frame control: control information for the frame
- Frame counter: incrementing counter to detect duplicates and prevent replay attacks (security)
- Profile identifier: the application frame format being transported
- Vendor identifier: to allow vendor extensions
- Frame payload: contains the application frame
- Message integrity code: to provide authentication (security)
Acknowledged, unacknowledged, unicast, broadcast, multiple channel and single channel are the possible transmission options for ZigBee RF4CE network. Suitable ones are chosen and applied together.
